Sugar Hill Apartments

Creation of the Renaissance Apartments by the Urban League of Greater Miami:

PLACE member, The Urban League of Greater Miami, Inc. (through its affiliate New Urban Development, LLC) is responsible for the redevelopment of Sugar Hill Apartments. At the time of its acquisition by the Urban League, Sugar Hill consisted of 192 units and was in a major state of disrepair. Today, the project has established the cornerstone for further neighborhood revitalization and was successful in utilizing a number of area residents and businesses during the redevelopment effort.

Funding:

The Urban League of Greater Miami, as part of a consortium of six non-for-profit corporations, was allocated $23M as part of the consortium’s $89M award under the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP2). Out of its portion of the allocation, the League committed the necessary funds to complete the renovation of Sugar Hill. Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade NSP II Consortium and Bank United also played key funding and financing roles

Impact:

Converted a 64 year old 192 unit apartment in poor condition into an apartment with 132 renovated two and three – bedroom units. All units are affordable to families with incomes at or below 60% of the area median income.
